VFX Reference: 5 Great Avengers Fight Scenes for Studying FX Work

As VFX artists it’s important to study the latest FX from TV and film so you can hone your skills and get inspired for your projects. In this fun post, we thought it’d be fun to create a quick breakdown featuring some of our favorite FX from the Avengers movies.

5. Avengers: Age Of Ultron - Hulk Vs. Hulkbuster Fight

The fight scene between Hulk and Hulkbuster is a classic example of how innovative the FX of Avengers truly is. The scene is a masterclass in destruction, magic FX, and debris.

4. The Avengers - Iron Man vs Chitauri Army (2012)

Perhapse the most iconic large-scale destruction scene in film history. The Iron Man vs Chitauri Army is a mash up of essential FX techniques including explosion FX, smoke simulation, and crowd dynamics. It holds up incredibly well.

3. Avengers: Infinity War - Thanos Throws A Moon (2018)

This whole fight scene happens on the planet where the gravity is a little off, which led to some really cool experimentation with physics makes VFX even cooler. The sheer scope of the planetary destruction at the end is incredible.

2. Avengers: Infinity War - Wakanda Battle (2018)

As outlined in our Explosion FX webinar, the Wakanda battle from Infinity war showcases some of the best looking simulated explosion FX ever produced for film. The battle is also a wonderful breakdown for magical FX lovers.

1. Avengers: Endgame - Destruction Of Sanctuary II (2019)

No, surprise here. The destruction and explosions in this scene is arguably the best of all time. The artists did a wonderful job helping give the ship weight as it crashed to the ground.
