This course will teach you the basics of Houdini through a multi-week learning experience. There's never been a better way to learn the world's most important VFX software.
Week one dives into hands-on architectural modeling. You'll set up projects and desktops, build outer walls, doors, windows, and pillars. Learn about roof details, advanced door modeling, groups, and deletions as you refine your skills in architectural design.
In this week we'll delve into advanced modeling techniques. You'll tackle the modeling of various blocks, optimize workflow with data reuse, and master door placement. Explore building layout setup, remeshing workflows, and attribute VOP noise. Refine your skills with noise controls, tweaking, and referencing, and learn to add UVs for enhanced texture mapping.
This week is all about building scatter and advanced copying techniques. From understanding copying points to mastering geometry orientation and variation, you'll explore wall cables, drawing curves, and modeling wall brackets. Learn about subnets for efficient workflow and dive into water pipe curve setup and modeling components.
In week four, we'll focus on ground water pipe and electrical panel setups. From initial setups to component modeling and copying, you'll learn essential techniques for building infrastructure. We'll also cover backplates, cables, subnets, and building scatter HDA for a well-rounded approach to construction.
This week focuses on heightfields, covering creation techniques, noise utilization, terrain integration with buildings, and advanced scattering methods for rocks and models. You'll delve into custom noises, terracing, erosion, displacement, and volumetric effects, culminating in the creation of stunning clouds to elevate your scene.
Week six delves into dynamic simulations, covering a range of topics from particle workflows and fireworks setups to vellum simulations for cloth, soft bodies, and grains. Explore hair setups, glue constraints, and wind effects, enhancing your understanding of dynamic simulation techniques.
Week seven focuses on rigid body dynamics (RBDs) and building destruction. You'll learn about RBD setups from the shelf tools, using constraints and forces, and simulating destruction. Explore techniques for prepping buildings, fracturing, and adding secondary details to enhance realism in your simulations.
Week eight is all about pyro simulations, covering billowy smoke creation, ground explosions, fire shaping, and dust setups. Explore various parameters and techniques to refine your simulations and add realism to your effects.
Week nine focuses on flip fluids, covering their introduction, SOP-based implementations, variable density setups, surface tension, and viscosity configurations.
Week ten delves into ocean and water simulations, exploring various setups and techniques. From small to large ocean overviews, guided ocean following objects, and floating objects on surfaces, you'll master the intricacies of water dynamics.

If you are already familiar with Houdini, we recommend taking Introduction to Houdini for FX. This course is designed to be an overview of the essential techniques required to work on realistic FX in a modern studio pipeline. By the end of this course, you will have an intermediate level of Houdini knowledge.
If you are an experienced Houdini Artist, or if you already have an intermediate-level knowledge of the software, you can pick and choose any course on the site. Most of our courses are designed to give you specific skills required for different VFX projects (Water, Magic, etc.). So feel free to pick and choose as it makes sense for you.

A typical course will take anywhere from 5-10 hours a week to watch and practice, so depending on your schedule you can determine if it is feasible for you to take multiple courses at once.
Also, you will have lifetime access to the course lessons. So if you decide that the course becomes too much to follow, you can always follow along at your own pace if you fall behind.
